The Big Sky Institute (BSI) is an exciting research and education center at Montana State University (MSU). BSI develops and connects the important science about the place that is known as the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem to an engaged local to international community. MSU's prominence in Yellowstone research and BSI's place-based science mission help to position MSU as the "University of the Yellowstone."

The mission of BSI is to develop and effectively communicate a scientific understanding of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. BSI’s location adjacent to Yellowstone, the largest pristine ecosystem in the continental US, provides a unique opportunity to understand how ecosystems function, especially in the context of increasing human impacts.
